Li Dazhao, one of the main founders of the Chinese Communist Party, lived at 35 Shifuma Rear Mansion in Xicheng District from 1920 to 1922. This was his longest place of residence. Now it's called 24 Wenhua Hutong of Xiwenhua Street. It was listed as a Beijing-protected cultural relic in 1979.
The Beijing municipal government and Xicheng District government allocated more than 20 million yuan to relocate the 36 families living in the house, repair the buildings and restore the original look of the house.
The designers set up the house as an exhibition hall and displayed all things as they were originally.
On April 28, 2007, the 80th anniversary of Li Dazhao's death, the unveiling ceremony of the restored house was staged, and the house opened to the public on May 8, 2007. It was named the Patriotism Education Base of the Xicheng District.
