Wangfujing Street


     Beijing has more than a hundred large and middle-sized shopping complexes. Wangfujin Street, Qianmen Dashilan and Xidan Commercial Street are the traditional shopping centres; whereas Guomao Shopping Centre, Oriental Plaza and Zhongguancun Square are new commercial hubs developed recently. These shopping centres will give you the greatest joy of shopping.

     If you have an interest in antiques, you might want to visit Liulichang or Panjiayuan Antique City. If you are looking for export clothing, then you must not miss Xiushui Street and Yaxiu Clothing Wholesale Market. Buying some special local product and souvenir will enhance the joy of traveling too. Jingtailan cloisonne, jade, silk embroidery etc are very ancient; and native handicrafts such as clay figurine, Peking opera mask, kites, paper-cuttings etc are inexpensive and make excellent gifts for family and friends.


New World Department Store
     Open in June 1998, New World Department Store improves it management by increasing it commodity category while it expands to other fields such as supermarket, entertainment and catering. It has been a super shopping mall integrating shopping, catering and entertainment. In 2001, New World began to turn its operation in increasing commodity categories and the layout management of commodities The New World has been awarded Beijing Store of Genuine Commodities and Brands and others awards.

Cuiwei Plaza
     Cuiwei Plaza (Mudanyuan Branch) is a subsidiary of Cuiwei Plaza. It was open in December 26, 2003, adjacent historic site of Yuan Da Du, namely the site of Yuan Dynasty's capital. This three-floor shopping building covers 20,000m2 floor area, 32,000m2 construction area, 25,000m2 out of which is used for business. There is 10,000m2 on each floor. As a department store, Mudanyuan Branch extends its business services to supermarket, catering, entertainment, finance and business centre.

Silk Alley (Xiushui Street)


     Silk Alley lies in Xiushui East Steet off Jianguomen Outer Street, near the US Embassy. It is a good place to buy cheaper goods and also an attractive place for foreign residents in Beijing. customer can bargain with the shopkeeper on whatever commodities, like bags, shoes, handicraftso ro sweaters.

     This colorful market is a must visit place for any new-comer to Beijing. Customers can select commodities from more than 400 booths and bargain the price. Here are some "golden rules" for customers. First golden rule is never to immediately pay the offering price. Shrewd negotiation will see you pay a good deal less. Second golden rule is to smile and be courteous, and you'll usually get a good response. Many "good buys" are available, especially in silk and other garments, plus accessories in a range from scarves to leatherwear. You will also find a huge array of souvenirs, but be ware of those claimed to be genuine antiques. Silk Alley can be a fun place, the more so if you have a Chinese friend with you to help you bargain.
