The 25th International Symposium on Ballistics (25th ISB)will be held in Beijing, China, on May 17-21, 2010. The symposium is organized by the China Ordnance Society (COS) and Nanjing University of Science and Technology (NUST). The Organizing Committee of the 25th ISB would like to invite all  scientists and researchers working in the field of ballistics to participate in this symposium and share their experience.

The objective of the 25th International Symposium on Ballistics is to focus on potential technical advances and break-throughs in the 21st century in the general area of:

  • Interior Ballistics
  • Exterior Ballistics
  • Launch Dynamics
  • Warhead Mechanics
  • Terminal Ballistics
  • Armor and Personal Protection
  • Wound Ballistics and Vulnerability

The symposium is an opportunity for ballistics scientists, engineers and others to report, share, and discuss current research and advances in ballistics and visions of the future.

SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACT AND FULL PAPER:

Abstracts must be submitted by August l, 2009, and will only be received via the website:  http://www.ciccst.net/conf/lunwen_new/login.asp?cnfid=501.

A number of papers will be given the opportunity to be scientifically reviewed and published in a renowned scientific journal (the Journal of Applied Mechanics). The abstracts and full manuscripts for such papers must be submitted by March l and by August 1, 2009 respectively. For further information, please log on the symposium website: www.isb2010.com.

The presentation of a paper does not  waive the symposium registration fees. All selected presenters will be required to pay a non-refundable US$300 registration fee deposit when submitting their final paper for inclusion in the printed proceedings. This deposit will be deducted from the registration fee.

Upon the successful reception, authors will be notified by an e-mail confirmation. Author’s notification of approvals will be sent out via e-mail by November 15, 2009.

Information for Some Papers of Intent to Be Published by the Journal of Applied Mechanics

For the symposium 2010, a number of papers will be given the opportunity to be scientifically reviewed and published in a renowned scientific journal. The Journal of Applied Mechanics will prepare to publish a special issue including about 22 papers (each paper within 9 papers of Journal format) from papers of the 25th ISB.

If an author writes a paper of more than 9 papers (of Journal format) length (corresponding to about 16 pages’ length in typical ISB paper format), there will be an extra cost of USD200 per page and this must be born by the author. Additionally, if the author wishes to use color graphics, there are special charges which are quite expansive and should be avoided.

If authors hope their papers to have opportunity to be published by the Journal, they should submit a short abstract by email before March 1, 2009. After that time the preliminary review of these abstracts organized by International Ballistics Committee will be made immediately from them received and then all authors of these abstracts will be informed. There are about 65 full papers needed to be further reviewed. The manuscripts of these papers, their abstracts accepted temporarily, should be submitted in the PDF format used by the Journal before August 1, 2009.

The usual abstracts of papers without intent of publication by the Journal are still submitted before August 1, 2009. This means that an author must submit either a full paper for further review of Journal publication or a usual abstract of symposium, not both at the same time.

All abstracts and manuscripts for these papers of intent of publication by the Journal, temporarily called as early papers, could be submitted directly to the ASME website, citing the 25th International Symposium on Ballistics and using the ASME’s on-line paper submission system. The authors can use the following reference:
    http://journaltool.asme.org/Help/AuthorHelp/WebHelp/JournalsHelp.htm#

    Submissions/Creating_an_Account.htm

When submitting a manuscript there the author must refer to "ISB 2010".

Attention please: The authors of all these early papers must, at the same time, submit a copy of short abstract or manuscript to the organizers of the 25th ISB via the on-line system of symposium website.

If one of these manuscripts would be rejected finally for publication in the Journal, this would then give sufficient time for the author to compress it for publication by the symposium. For these papers to be published by the Journal, their extended abstracts may be included in the Proceedings of the Symposium, but not the full paper.

It is also essential that these papers of publication by the Journal will be treated equally to all others when it comes to placing them on the program as either oral or poster papers.

    LODGING

A block of rooms has been reserved in several hotels. Most of them are located less than ten minutes walk to the symposium venue. Please make reservations early and ask for the ISB2010 block room with special rates. More information is available on the symposium web page.

    AWARDS:

Papers published in the symposium proceedings will be eligible for selection of the following awards:

  • The Louis and Edith Zernow Award
  • Neill Griffiths Memorial Award
  • Pei and Rosalind Chou Young Author Award
  • SABO AWARD

  • INVITED SESSION:

According to general rule of the ISB, an invited session will be arranged following the opening ceremony of the Symposium. Some invited experts will be invited to deliver the keynote address.

    EXHIBITION:

A limited amount of exhibit space is available for companies or organizations to display equipment and information related to the field of ballistics. Displays or marketing of weaponry however will not be permitted.

The organization committee invites you to take advantage of this tremendous opportunity to demonstrate your organization’s products and services to this specialized community by exhibiting at this year's Symposium.

The exhibit dates are May 17-21, 2010. For further information, please visit the web page for the symposium. http://www.ISB2010.com to view the additional symposium information as it becomes available.
